(EXPLOSIVE HAZARD) IED FOUND/CLEARED RPT (VOIED) 1/C/1-17IN : 0 INJ/DAM

While embedded with 1/C/1-17IN on dismounted patrol, EOD team encountered a possible choke point and pushed forward to search area IVO GRID 41RQR5098304568. TL moved forward to choke point while TM 1 maintained visual on TL from behind frontal and overhead protection. TM 2 maintained secure perimeter with infantry dismounts. TL moved through doorway of mud structure utilizing MIMID. Upon entering building TL decided to clear to second door immediately to ensure multiple means of egress if necessary. While clearing to second doorway TL encountered two pieces of rebar, cleared under and around those, and then swept area again. TL still observed strong metallic signature. TL uncovered approx 6 inches of double strand orange det cord. Since an IED had already been found in a similar manner within 100m from this site (reference CIDNE report # IED-20091130111541RQR5110804255) TL had drop charge prepared and plan in place with EOD team and security element should this situation arise. TL placed drop charge on det cord then moved out to TM 1, informed all members of patrol of IED, drop charge, and began moving to safe area. Security element squad leader informed C/1-17IN of situation via MBITR and air space was cleared prior to detonation. Approx 10 lbs of contribution was noted by EOD team. TL and TM 1 moved back down range, conducting long range recon for any previously unseen hazards along the way, to IED site to ensure scene was safe. TL entered building with MIMID again and discovered crater consistent with 10lbs HME, fragmentation from 122mm projectile, and pieces of yellow jug. TL believes 122mm frag was added to jug for additional effect, and was not a full up round.
